March 9: National Barbie Day

Ken has crazy hair...and enjoys riding horses?
I never thought I would be taking pictures of Barbies. I would like to clarify, that yes, my mom did save my Barbies from when I was younger but I have not played with them in at least a decade. When I took them out to photograph them, I found them rather creepy to be honest. Their hair was a disaster and there were so many small accessories that I'm sure my parents just loved stepping on.

If you were like me, there was a time in early elementary school when Barbies were all the rage. I had a Barbie post office. I had a Barbie RV and even a bowling alley. But my favorite Barbie, was the little baby one (are they called Kelly's or something like that?) that went to the bathroom. Yes, I force fed a little baby Barbie from a water bottle you would fill up with sink water. You would practically pour the water down her throat so it ended up in her stomach. Then, placing her politely on the little Barbie toilet (complete with miniature toilet paper even!), you would oh so gently SQUEEZE her stomach until she "peed." I was OBSESSED. I have no idea why. Sadly I couldn't find this baby Barbie or her accompanying toilet, so you will just have to take my word for it.

See how Ken is holding what is clearly a glass of wine? Most definitely appropriate for children.

I have to admit something else embarrassing. I used to have matching nightgowns with my Barbies. I always made sure to choose the nightgown at the store that came with a matching one for your Barbie. And no, I do NOT have pictures of that to show.

So Happy Birthday Barbie. You are 55 years old today!

Fun fact: My mom was born in the same year as Barbie and even has a very similar name! Isn't she lucky?
