Doesn't the thought of grammar just make you want to get up and dance?
It should be noted, that even though I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and that English is my first language, I still am bad at grammar. If you know me personally, you've probably laughed a long with me as I am talking because sentences don't always come out of my mouth normally. Meanwhile, I have lived the past 3.5 years with my friend who is an English major. Yeah, you can see where this is going. She just HAS to correct me when talking. However, I'm not sure it has helped. I do appreciate her effort though!
At one point in my life, I was pretty fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). ASL utilizes a different form of grammar. I loved it. I could sign TURTLE - I - LOVE, instead of saying I love turtles. It makes sense to me, because in the above sentence, the object of my sentence is "turtle". That is the most important part of the sentence, and in ASL, I could chose to sign it first, therefore placing more emphasis on it. As a pretty dramatic person, ASL was a perfect fit for me because I was encouraged to be animated.
Note: If you know me, I get pretty dramatic when I talk. While this doesn't have to do with grammar, it does have to do with me. I flail my arms about a lot while talking. A few weeks ago I almost hit a waitress at a restaurant while I was arm flailing and I almost caused her to spill some food on a guy's head. A few days ago at Disneyland, I was ecstatic because I saw Princess Merida. I threw my arms in the air and waved them about and she finally waved back. It then got awkward as we were walking in the same direction and we ended up walking near each other for a while. I turned to rejoin my group of friends and she must have paused or something. I go to reenact my dramatic waving and low and behold I almost punch Princess Merida in the face! Which would have been a disaster. Luckily I did not punch Princess Merida in the face. Sorry, I am digressing...
Sorry I have been missing in action a few days - I was off having fun with my friends down in SoCal. We went to Disneyland and the beach. But I'm back and excited to be blogging again.
