June 8: National Best Friend Day

Where would we be in life without friends?

They pick you up when you are down and they make you keep going. They are the ones who show you the light at the end of the tunnel. Often times, they even are the light at the end of the tunnel.

And where would we be without that one best friend?

You know, the person who is still friends with you even when you rip your pants numerous times, still signs up for P.E. classes with you when you are an embarrassment, and is always, I mean ALWAYS, willing to get a coffee with you?

I met Allison the first day of college. Little did I know I was meeting my future maid-of-honor.

I knew I liked her, when it was the second or third day we had known each other, and she exploded a soda on some random girls bed in the dorm. We all went into panic mode as we quickly laundered this girl's sheets and comforter.

She is the only person I know who never says no to my late night snack cravings. And we may or may not have once gone through the drive-thru twice at Sonic because the first time, we just didn't get enough food.

From late night talks and late night pina coladas, to literally holding my hand as I went through hell when one of my friends from high school suddenly passed away, she's my rock.

The biggest fight we have ever had was over cheesecake. Allison wasn't eating her half of the cheesecake fast enough. Before you know it, my half of the cheesecake was gone and I burst into tears as I cried, "Now you are going to eat your cheesecake with malicious intent!"

As Allison died of laughter (and I cried harder) Allison explained that you can't really eat cheesecake with malicious intent. And she graciously shared her remaining cheesecake with me. You know someone is your best friend when they let you eat 3/4 of a cheesecake.

From surviving crazy psycho roommates, winning a math poetry contest at college, and singing out loud to every song that plays on the radio, here's to my best friend!

P.S. - You better make a really really badass maid-of-honor speech at my future wedding.

  1. Friendship is sweet! It must be nice to have someone your really close too. I think my sister is the closest I have to a best friend.

  2. I just want to say that I think the malicious cheesecake incident actually happened BEFORE you had finished your half. Like you were so panicked about being out of cheesecake before it even happened, yet you couldn't stop yourself from eating it all!

But really, thank you for this post! You are the best!
