This day is dedicated to my mom, and her friend Cindy.
My mom was eight-years-old and had gone to visit her Grandma all the way in Wisconsin (from California), for two weeks during the summer. There she met Cindy, a girl who lived across the street from her. They were instantly good friends.
They would write to each other a couple of times a year and it wasn't until they were teenagers that they saw each other again. My mom attended Cindy's wedding several years later and they still see each other periodically.
My mom recently came back from a trip to Wisconsin where she attended Cindy's daughter's wedding.
It's the story of a friendship that has lasted a lifetime due to the fact that they were pen pals.
Remember, this is before the time of email or cellphones.
This is my mom and her friend Cindy, taken just last week. The house behind them was my great-grandmother's, the place where these pen pals first met.
So here is proof, that you don't need technology to stay connected. It may help, but there's nothing quite as special as receiving a letter in the mail. Just ask my mom or Cindy, they still write to each other (both email and letters).
So here's to 48 years of being pen pals and counting!
That's so cool that they kept in touch by snail mail all those years!
