I've heard that you should smile when you answer the phone, because the other person will be able to tell.
I kept this little tid-bit of advice in my mind when I had my interview for the Disney College program (DCP).
I smiled when I answered that phone call (the most important phone call I have ever had in fact!) and I kept smiling the whole time.
As you know, I did get the internship at Disneyland and it did change my life. And maybe I got the internship because my interviewer was able to sense my smile. You never know.
I did a lot of smiling at Disneyland because you are supposed to smile and be happy. And I was happy.
I was reading an article in which a study determined that people find those who are smiling more attractive. No duh! Would you really find someone who looked grumpy more attractive than someone who was smiling? Sometimes I wonder about these "studies."
Smile because Mickey Mouse is ALWAYS smiling.
Smile because ice cream exists and ice cream is delicious.
Smile because Christmas at Disney is so magical that sometimes it's overwhelming in all ways good.
Smile because friends are one of the best parts of life.
Smile because let's be honest, this is one of the best photo bombers I have ever seen.
Anyways, go out and smile to the world, and see if just perhaps, the world is smiling back at you.

June 10: National Ice Tea Day
I've fallen behind on this blog. And it makes me sad. Sometimes life is just so overwhelmingly busy, that the blog is the last thing on my mind.
I've been having a lot of fun lately. I went to the coast with a good friend of mine. And that's what matters.
I'm doing this blog so that others can enjoy my everyday celebrations, but I'm mostly doing this blog for me. So that I can prove to myself that I really can celebrate something everyday. That I can find a reason to find joy Every. Single. Day.
Because one day, I'm going to look back at the blog, and I'm going to smile remembering how difficult Kahlua Bon Bons are or be amazed that I actually made baked Alaska (and that it is not actually a type of fish, as I once thought.) Because this blog is challenging me, and we grow the most from challenges.
Anyways, on to National Ice Tea Day. My mom drinks ice tea by the gallons. Except for the rare (more like semi-rare) times when mom brews the ice tea over old coffee grounds and we have to quickly discard that batch of tea. So this day is for my mom! Drinker of ice tea!
Notice her Disney shirt and her Disney cup? GO MOM!

May 7: National Barrier Day
National Barrier Day is to recognize the barriers people with disabilities face.
I have a degree in Elementary Education. I want to work with kids with special needs.
I have a speech impediment that people often think is an accent.
It's not an accent.
It's definitely not a British accent.
Don't ask me where I come from and get annoyed when I say Oregon.
"But where do you originate from?"
Oregon.
I "originate" from Oregon. If that's even a thing.
Don't think that since I sometimes can't pronounce something, I can't hear. Don't speak louder to me.
Don't think that because I have problems pronouncing some sounds, that it makes me stupid.
I graduated high school with over a 4.0 GPA.
I graduated college Magna Cum Laude.
So please don't assume anything about anyone.
I have to give a shout out to the Walt Disney Company. When I worked for Disneyland, I was buying one of my numerous souvenirs, and realized the cashier was Deaf. Since I know and love sign language, I signed to him. We had a beautiful conversation. He had worked as a cashier at Disneyland for 7 years. That fact made me proud to work for this company. They have a lady in the Aladdin show who is in a wheelchair. I've seen cast members who have cerebral palsy. The Walt Disney Company is a prime example of a company that doesn't pay attention to so called "disabilities."
They are helping people pass these barriers.
That's what is important.
